This Week in Plugins
Phase-Distortion Synth
It’s easy to doubt phase-distortion synthesizers due to the many unimpressive plugins out there. But Nakst’s Regency, a phase-distortion synth, stands out with its useful features and modern take on an often forgotten technique.
The plugin includes two Generator layers, modulation choices, and a ladder filter. Creative effects slots and over 60 built-in patches show Regency’s quality.
Regency’s flexibility and strong sound design potential make it a helpful tool for music producers. The customizable interface and polyphonic non-destructive modulation support further enhance the plugin and its phase-distortion synthesis. Download the synth here.
Mid/Side Processing
The Tip
Use mid/side processing in FL Studio.
Why?
Mid/side processing is a way to control stereo width and mono compatibility in your mix. It helps create a balanced/spacious sound.
Tell me more.
This technique separates the mono (center) and stereo (sides) elements in your mix, allowing adjustments and enhancements to each. In FL Studio, native plugins like Fruity Stereo Shaper can be used to explore this approach.
Mid/side processing helps control stereo width, amplify or diminish specific elements in the mix, and enhance the overall balance of your track. This method is particularly beneficial for ensuring your mix performs well on various playback systems and for generating depth and space.
See it in Action
Here’s how to use mid/side processing in FL Studio with Fruity Stereo Shaper. First, add the Fruity Stereo Shaper plugin to the mixer channel. Then, in the plugin’s settings, set up mid and side bands by selecting the “Mid/Side Split” preset. Next, change the in/out difference parameter to “2”. Now the side signal gets processed separately on a new mixer track.
I’ll see you next Friday with another roundup of presets, samples, and VSTs that you can use in FL Studio!
Reply and let me know if you’d like to see any presets in particular or if you have music you’d like me to feature.
Take care.
Cheers,
