In the latest “we’re changing the game” move, BandLab – the behemoth music-making app boasting a whopping 60 million users – is now playing matchmaker between its users’ tunes and the world of TV, films, games, and ads. Welcome to ‘BandLab Licensing’.

The Goal
Bandlab markets this ‘one-stop licensing solution’ as the next big thing. The plan? Turning bedroom producers’ music into potential elevator soundtracks for any media desperate enough. This sync licensing program is already attaining placements on Disney+’s The Clauses, CW’s The Flash, WWE Raw, and others.

UMG Joins the Band(wagon)
BandLab’s not just stopping at licensing. They’re cozying up with Universal Music Group, diving into an “industry-first” AI partnership. What does that even mean? Your guess is as good as mine. Their CEO, Meng Ru Kuok, thinks we’ll have a “billion music creators by 2030.” Kuok believes technological advances will do to musicians what the smartphone did to photographers.

With BandLab Licensing, the platform aims to diversify income streams for creators with easy sync licensing. This initiative marks a pivotal expansion for BandLab and its community, but I’d hate to be the one sorting through all those tracks to find the gems.
